Marlon's a great guy and a good friend who I've know since he was about 15. He's a fantastic and powerful surfer who truly deserves this chance on the WCT tour. Go Marlon, we'll be watching and supporting you.

Marlon was actually born in Portugal, and pretty much lived all his life there. He just surfs for Germany because his parents are germans and specially because of better sponsorship deals.
Go Marlon! Go Tiago!

I read somewhere Marlon felt more German than Portugese, probably some interview. If I'm wrong correct me. It was a surprise to see the ASP giving an injury wildcard to Marlon even though he was not injured. They could also have given one to say, Michael Campbell, who may never have a chance to qualify again through the QS. But those decisions have to benefit the ASP, and having the first german surfer on the CT will definitely bring more media focus to surfing in Germany, probably sponsorship deals for the ASP, higher profits for the surf industry etc... It's huge.
THe only regrettable thing is that Marlon did poorly in Hawaii, and still was given a chance to make the CT. Many feel that if you can't perform in Hawaii you don't belong on the CT, an opinion I share. Hopefully Marlon will make good use of his luck and show us he can rip in Hawaii.
