99% of paddle surfers are no better than Brosnan (and, yes, I mean you paddle surfer who is reading this). It's just an attempt to act get noticed... "Look at me! I'm a waterman like Laird Hamilton! Wheeeeee!!!!" Paddle surfing is for pathetic fad-humping kooks.

Not only at 99% of the SUP surfers wobbling kooks, but the vast majority are crappy surfers that couldn't get a wave to begin with. By hiding behind the latest fad, they're trying to mask the rea truth - that their "longboards-on-steroids" are just a desperate attempt to make up for their general inadequacy.

In typical closed minded, territorial surfer fashion, Mailbu Bill, you are concerning yourself a great deal with what others are doing and getting all pissed off because some people want to try something different than what you are doing. What, did an old guy on an SUP steal all your waves this morning - was he in a good mood and smiling, having a good time too? What a BASTARD! You should have shouted him off your waves or maybe punctured his tires. Imagine the nerve of someone enjoying themselves in a way that you don't. Why don't you grow a sack and stop bitching, little girl.

i think you whimps got no money for sup board!just go out and try look cool with that 5.8 "kelly"board+golden smile.you gonna have 0 waves, you poor sods.

if i see sups out at the break its obviously too small of a day to shortboard. those p***ys cant ride anything over knee high. its obvious to everyone who the real surfers are when the swell hits. out in the hamptons the cool new thing is to have a rangerov or bmw suv with a sup on the roof. its almost to the point that if you dont roll up to ditch plains with that shit you are the kook. can we ban these things just by saying they waste too much fiberglass and foam when we should be conserving that shit for the planet. what about the people that sell these awful things to all the kooks, you gotta wonder if while they are taking that cool grand they are thinking about one more kook in their lineup. ride a fish! kooks!!!

Ezra - It's not SUP their criticizing, it's people's motivation and competence. Motivation = trying to stand out be taking part in the latest fad. Competence = SUPs are mostly kooks on regular boards so they move to something easier. NO ONE except a few real watermen SUP'd before shots of Laird got in the mags. Now all of a sudden they're everywhere simply because its super-duper fun??? WHAT A F-ING COINCIDENCE!!!! KOOKS, GO BACK TO ROLLERBLADING!!!!
Posted Sun Jun22, 2008, 1:46 PM — By Malibu Bill
Hey Ezra - I just saw Laird pogo sticking in a pink tutu and ballet shoes in the cross creek parking lot this morning. You're gonna look pretty stupid in a pink tutu, Ezra - almost as ridiculous as you look kooking it up on that SUP board.

Who cares guys? There is lots of cool shit to do in the ocean. You'll get more waves by surfing more and talking less shit. I agree big boards suck when you are trying to sit in the right spot in the water where progress occurs. But if someone wants to sit outside the kinetic energy, go straight, and wiggle, then fucking let em. At least they can keep a cold beer or big doobie hung around their neck bone?

shew lots of respect here! wonder what i have to do/say to have some random throw some hatred my way. probly not much. remember why u started surfing.. and no its not just invented for you to enjoy.

i tell you what. iʻve been in the water my whole life and iʻm a pro surfer, and stand up is not just for kooks. yeah, perspectively it is easier than trying to master moves on a shortboard, or get your balls out and charge Pipeline, but itʻs no less effective on your body. It all depends on oneʻs outlook on what surfing does for them. if someone surfs to seem cool riding down the wave whipping and snapping, or enjoys that feeling, then thatʻs their thing. but for others that enjoy being in the ocean on a craft and like to use the ocean to exercise, or just like to experience different realms of ocean activities, then stand up is the way to go. you canʻt physically get more exercise from any other style of surfing. but, i do agree that their is a time and place for this. when the waves are really cranking, it is a waist to ride one because you can get a lot more out of a good wave on other types of boards. anyone who hasnʻt tried it, go out when the waves are tiny next, you&#

it is kind of lame how people SUP just because its a fad but think of all the fads that all surfers follow. A lot of it is about how u look and the kooks that do paddle board do it because they look better on it than on ur average shortboard, but there are people that SUP for the style of it and to get the most out of smaller waves and i can respect that

Does anyone else want to slap that long haired TMZ kid and take his Occy shirt away from him?

What do SUP - Fish - Playing in a band - Trucker Hats - hat brims ironed flat - hats worn to the side have in common? They are all fads. Period. It is funny how the more people try to be different, the more they actually remain the same.

Let me guess, Malibu Bill rides a longboard at Malibu. Now THAT is original. He certainly wasn't following anyone else when he decided to engage in that activity. Anyone who surfs is following a fad. 40 years ago there was no more than 5 guys in the water at any break. Now there are dozens, even hundreds. Did everyone magically take up surfing independently, not realizing that anyone else was doing it? No, we all saw someone else do it and thought it looked cool. We're all followers. Is it somehow bad to try something that looks fun if you don't invent it yourself? I'd love to try even half the shit that Laird Hamilton does--including that board he rides without making contact with the water...

Yeah, homey, in the Occy shirt... hey bra...like your the shiznit and have it all together with your life. Criticizing guys that are beginning or learning, thats kinda lame, but you are lame, so it works.

Who cares, just share the water. Paddle boarders definitely have an edge bc they are using a giant paddle, instead of their tiny hands. But hey, they can see the sets first, so if you make friends with them, they'll say "Here comes a set!" You just got to make sure your Twin Evinrude is on the back or they're going to beat you to position! However, it isn't the same no matter what. Surfing is surfing. You either surf, or you don't. And to Jimmy, I am still one of the few girls (18yrs in the water) that surf the Jersey Coast. Screw fads, I dispise them. But Jimmy, I get your point. You just got to keep it real. I love watching celebs eat it. Anyway, as long as I get my waves I don't care what you ride- long, short, sup, coffee table, whatever. Anyone who bitches about what other people ride probably isn't very good at catching waves.

listen up you punks, i dare you show up with your sissy boards and challenge me on the water, let's see who cruises victoriously to the shore. Ladies like a man serene, with style, sure of himself and a board with space for two for romance. Time to rethink your strategy.

I bought an 800,000 place in Paradise Cove Malibu 6 yrs ago. I have lived in Malibu almost 30 years.I have ground my teeth through the 90's long-board revolution.3 years ago I was surfing 3' Paradise Cove when all of a sudden this dorkey muscle head appears out of nowhere standing on a 12' board with a paddle,It was Laird!!!.In 1 month all the rest of the muscle bound uncoordinated. long-boarder WATERMEN( lol ) were out surfing next to me.I just wanted to thank Laird for coming to Malibu ,selling out his own kind & destroying some of the best right point breaks on the coast. Can't wait till he digs a rail on his next 60 foot wave.Wait till this poor excuse for a sport takes off.All the real surfers will be on the golf course.Just because my cave man ancestors cooked raw meat over a fire doesn't mean I do it today .Someone help us!!!!!

first off...that is so lame in the video that someone else is carrying his board off the beach...secondly, it all comes down to respect.most SUP's dont come from a surfing background, and dont get basic rules in the line-up....they completely disregard the rules and pose a hazard as they dont understand board safety/etiquiette approaching the line-up/surfing/falling/going thru sets...plain and simple

I think SUP should be in the Olympics!!!! It can replace women's basketball!!!!!!Laird says surfing with a banana in your butt is the new rage in core workouts everyone is doing it!!!!!!
