The Quiksilver Surf Shop Challenge presented by
SURFER Magazine dates announced!

Now in its second incarnation of the new millennium, the ultimate surf shop team challenge is coming to a beach near you this summer. From Kewalos to New Symrna, with five regional events, and a $10,000 winner-take-all championship scheduled to coincide with the San Diego ASR Trade Show in September the Quiksilver Surf Shop Challenge is back and better than ever.

Originally conceived to provide a fun, competitive format to the hardest of the hardcore-surf shop surf teams-the SURFER Shop Team Challenge was one of the most anticipated contest events of the early 1980s. Taking place exclusively in Southern California, the Shop Challenge was an annual opportunity to put sales numbers aside and settle the score in the water.

You think those '80s pros went hard? Put a colored jersey on a shop rat, give him 15 minutes to release all that energy pent up from sitting behind the counter all day, mix in the already intense regional competition between surf shops and you had the making of a battle royale.

Last year, inspired by the talents of Nathaniel and Josh Curran, it was Revolution Surf Shop in Oxnard that took the ten grand prize. This summer, repeating on the overwhelming success from last year, the Shop Challenge is back and Team Revolution is more than hungry to defend their title (who wouldn’t be, there’s ten grand up for grabs for cryin’ out loud!).

The Quiksilver Surf Shop Challenge presented by SURFER Magazine also would like to thank its roster of supporting sponsors that includes DC shoes, Sector 9, ASR, WaveWatch, Surf Expo and Red Bull.

The competition will be fierce as 120 teams compete across 5 regions for a chance to take the glory home for their shop. If that's not motivation enough, the winning team from each of the four regions (South Carolina to Florida, North Carolina to Maine, San Diego to Orange County, Seal Beach to Santa Cruz, and Hawaii) gets to duke it out for the overall title during the Championships in Oceanside, CA this September for a $10,000 winner takes all prize purse and a full-page color ad in SURFER Magazine!
