SURFER Magazine, the worldwide industry-leading surf publication, has announced the 2007 Surfer Poll & Video Awards presented by Suzuki Automotive, an event that gives fans the loudest voice in all of surfing. Celebrating its 35th year, the Poll recognizes the most popular and influential surfers in our sport, all of whom are selected through votes cast by SURFER readers.

Beginning in 1963, SURFER Magazine asked its core audience to make a call on who they felt were the best surfers in the world. Thus began the Surfer Poll. For decades since, readers have continually guided this process with their votes, and as a result, the Surfer Poll has become an annual celebration driven by the masses, a crucial element that provides the awards with its prestige.

Beginning today, SURFER Magazine is again asking its readers to voice their opinion by selecting the top 10 males and top five females in the sport, based on their competitive performance and overall impact on the sport. Past male winners include Phil Edwards, Tom Curren, Andy Irons and Kelly Slater.  Female winners include Joyce Hoffman, Lisa Andersen, and Rochelle Ballard.          

The Surfer Poll is one of the most prestigious awards in surfing, and will culminate with the Awards show on September 11, 2007, at The Grove of Anaheim. This is the Academy Awards of our world, and is the biggest night of the year. Don’t miss the opportunity to give the best surfers on the planet the credit they deserve by voting online and through the mail, via the mail-in ballots provided in the July and August issues of SURFER Magazine. Voting ends on August 15, 2006.

Fans can watch the 2007 Surfer Poll & Video Awards presented by Suzuki Automotive on FUEL TV on October 23 at 9:30 pm. The 2007 Awards will be covered fully by SURFER Magazine and FUEL.
