are effing kidding? how can anyone honestly argue that there is a better surf university than UH-Manoa. umm...hello idiots, the fact that you can surf pipeline for dawn patrol, then drive in to town later that morning for class at UH, and then drive back to the north shore in 45 minutes to surf pipeline again for an evening session...i mean, come on. you have to be suffering from some serious head trauma to actually think there would be a better school/surf combo.

The U.H. system, with its Community Colleges, campuses on 4 islands, international programs, diverse student body, and much, much more deserves a higher academic rating. As for surf, a 10 is not enough! Island spots pick up swells year round: North Shores in winter and South Shores in summer. And, maybe folks up on the mainland do not mind turning blue, having their feet go numb, and not being able to move their lips to speak because of the cold water, but islanders know that warm water allows for longer sessions, friendlier waves, and fewer blue body parts. And, maybe the raters should count the sheer number of surf spots near the ranked universities. Whether it is in town, on the North Shore, on the Windward Side, Makaha, or the short flight to Jaws, there is simply no comparison. And, try this: Do a population-density profile of mainland waves and compare it with island waves. North Shore and tow-in spots can get packed, but there are still many spots where you go out and your friend are a crowd.
