EVENT #1 goes beserkers at avalanche jetty in ocean beach!!!!

The first Event in a series of 8 contests took place October 4th and 5th at Ocean Beach in solid, super rippable, 3-5 foot waves. Over 180 competitors thru 9 divisions came out for the two day event at Avalanche Jetty to compete for prizes and trophies in the Amateur divisions, and for big money in the PRO and AIRSHOW divisions. The PRO/AM had a very talented round of 48 surfers, several of them coming down from Orange County to compete for the $1,000 1st Place Check. There was definitely some amazing surfing going on throughout the weekend! The AIRSHOW had a round of 24 maniacs that were boosting every which way imaginable for the $500 1st Place Check and were very much impressing all of Ocean Beach's spectators. Just barely missing the PRO/AM Finals (getting 3rd in the 3-man Semi-Finals) and finishing a very respectable =5th was Carlsbad's Justin Wiegand and Kyle Knox (aka K-PAX) from Imperial Beach. Keep the faith guys - You were killin' it! Moving on to the Finals were 3 Orange County Terrorizers - Shaun Ward, Timmy Reyes and Jeff Hurley, and one lone San Diego representative - Che Stang from Carlsbad. In the 25 minute Final it was Timmy and Che catching most of the longer open faced rides, both of them determined to go home with the $1,000 Check. In a super tight battle for 1st and an actual count back on the score sheets, Che prevailed as the winner, walking with the $1,000 Check and a ton of spectator cheers. Lucky the Diego boy came through.......... that Ocean Beach crowd can get pretty hostile! 2nd went to Timmy, 3rd to Jeff Hurley, and 4th to Shaun Ward.

The AIRSHOW Semi Finals left Encinitas pimp Grayson Adams and Carlsbad booster Josh Buran just short of the big money round. Punting big into the Finals were Gavin Sutherland from Solana Beach, Sean Marceron from Encinitas, Kyle Knox from Imperial Beach, and the hard charging double finalist Jeff Hurley from Costa Mesa. Jeff was on a roll all weekend in both divisions. He dominated that Avalanche left like he'd been surfing there his whole life, blowing minds by sticking huge frontside airs in all his heats. Unfortunately, Jeff ran out of gas in the AIRSHOW Final finishing a very respectable 4th, followed by Gavin Sutherland in 3rd and Kyle (K-PAX) Knox in 2nd.......... Which means the underground darkhorse of the Final, Sean Marceron, just went nuts - sticking 4 big backside airs on a borrowed board that was 3 inches taller than his own 5'10"!! Sean was freakin' when he busted the tail on his board in an earlier Air heat on Saturday. So Congratulations to Sean for boosting big Schmeebs and pocketing the $500 1st Place Check!!

All the Ams were on fire all weekend too - Everybody was just schralping!! We got really stoked out with a perfect swell for the event. Thanks go out to everyone who came down to the contest and made it a big success!!
