HEATH LEDGER PASSES
Aussie Surfer Found Dead In Apartment

by
SURFER Staff

Ledger in Lords of Dogtown.

On Tuesday afternoon in a New York City apartment, Australian actor, Heath Ledger, was found dead by his housekeeper. A cocktail of various prescription drugs were also found at the scene; however, autopsy reports remain inconclusive concerning the acute cause of death.

His passing marks a sad day for both the general public as well as for the surf community. Ledger, who was featured as "One of the World's Most Intriguing Surfers" in the 2004 Big Issue of SURFER Magazine grew up surfing in Yallingup, Australia - home to another famous pro surfer by the name of Taj Burrow.

Ledger migrated west from Australia at the age of sixteen to pursue a career in entertainment, but never strayed too far from his surfing roots, retaining the sport as a part of his lifestyle as well as even accomodating it into his professional career with a performance in Lords of Dogtown.
