HBO SURF NOIR A Family Of Drug Addled Surfers Set To Replace The Sopranos And Sex And The City
David Milch
As stated before, Milch is a former Yale employee and an acclaimed writer and producer. But he’s also grappled with addiction and has a history of tapping the underbelly of society for inspiration. Understandably then, his work has a tendency to err on the dark side of the entertainment spectrum. It’s likely the characters he’ll write, and the world he’ll place them in, will be more Archy than Hobgood; more Tijuana surf slum than La Jolla.
Brian Van Holt
Van Holt, whose casting credits include roles in films like Black Hawk Down, Basic and S.W.A.T. has been tapped for the role of Butchie Yost, an ex-pro surfer turned drug addict whose life will be dramatically influenced by an enigmatic character named John.
Rebecca De Mornay
De Mornay, who’s perhaps most famous for her performance as a hooker in the 1983 classic Risky Business, will play Cissy Yost, mother of Shaun and wife of Butchie.
Ed O’Neill
Based on a true-life friend of Milch’s—who happens to be an ex-NYC cop—O’Neill’s character, Bill, will play the moral foil to the Yost clan’s debauchery.
Luke Perry
Originally cast in a guest appearance role, rumor has it that Perry’s presence and character jelled so well with the direction of the project that he was brought on as a full-time member of the cast.
