A relatively unknown Tahitian, 16-year-old Tamaroa McComb, stole the show away from Australia's top under-20 surfers by winning the Hurley Burleigh Pro Junior this weekend, according to Australian news sources.

First to fall to the French Polynesian was Quiksilver Young Gun phenom and No. 2 seed Julian Wilson, who lost out to McComb in the quarter finals. Next to suffer at the hands of McComb was upstart Heath Joske. In the finals the Tahitian had his way with No.1 seed Stuart Kennedy.

"My win hasn't really sunk in yet," said McComb. "It feels great to finally win a pro junior event. Surfing against this caliber of guys really made my victory more special."

McComb recently relocated to the Gold Coast of Australia to focus his surfing career in this highly competitive region. According to news sources, he is living with mentor and renowned big-wave surfer/shaper Dylan Longbottom.

McComb collected $6000AUD for his victory. That's a lot of baguettes. But perhaps more importantly the French Polynesian has won a trip to SoCal as a wildcard into the trials of the Boost Mobile Pro WCT event at Trestles in California in September. Is more Tahitian top seed damage to be done on SoCal soil?
