SURFERMAG.COM NEWS

SURFFEMMINO CLINIQUE: A Brazilian surfer sent me this link to surffeminino.com.br. Check it out if you can read Portuguese and/or like to look at women surfing.

SURFRIDER FOUNDATION INTERNSHIPS: Two are available for the summer. The deadline to impress those folks is March 1. So get your resume to them ASAP. Send to Chad Nelsen Surfrider Foundation P.O. Box 6010 San Clemente, CA 9267 cnelsen@surfrider.org

GENTLEMEN, START YOUR ENGINES: The Quiksilver Pro is set to begin March 4 (pending swell) and this event marks the start of the 2003 ASP WCT season. It will be hard for the 'CT to surpass last season's unbelievable good luck regarding quality surf, but here's hoping they get some. Rumors that the ASP may have to cancel all or part of the European leg due to the hideous Prestige oil spill are circulating. And with pending military action against Saddam the madman seemingly inevitable, tour officials have a few bumps ahead of them. I'm confident that Peter Whitaker and Rabbit can pull it off, as the ASP leaders must have learned a lot from the post 9/11 public relations/logistic headaches. Contingency lads, lots of contingency.

AREA CODE CHANGE: Leslie at Big Red productions sent along an email pimping a Surf Film Festival In Santa Barbara. It will feature Surfermag.com contributing vid slave Josh Pomer's latest flick "805". If you're from Santa Barbara this is a must see. The show is Wednesday, February 26th 6 PM - 1 AM at The Coach House (110 Santa Barbara St. the Ocean side of the 101 call 805.965.0789). Oh yeah, there is a huge raffle and a bunch of pro surfers will be there signing autographs. Check out the website atBIGREDPROD.com

WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION: Sarah Hughes sent along a disturbing email pointing out the proliferation of Great White Shark tourist attractions. Apparently the folks running said operation lather up a surfboard with cow blood and a nice rump roast and wait for the Great Whites to munch down.

A LATE VALENTINES: Joey Valentine recently won the 9th annual Quiksilver Makahiki Longboard championships. Last year's winner, Keegan Edwards was 2nd, Duane Desoto 3rd, and Bonga Perkins 4th. Valentine's backside balance and style kept him in the lead from the beginning of the final.

VAN HALEN TRAVEL SPECIAL: Steve Thompson of surferparadise.com sent me an email citing super good deals on air travel to Panama. Log on to Travelocity.com and make sure to indicate "flexible" travel dates.

CABO WABO WATER: Puerto Escondido and other Mexican bays have polluted water, this news according to a Mexican government report.

A government study published Monday detected water pollution at 16 Mexican beach resorts and said the situation has already caused some health problems.

Significant levels of pollution were found at Mexico's best-known bay, Acapulco. Other beachfront destinations popular with foreign tourists, such as Ensenada, Puerto Vallarta, Puerto Escondido, and Huatulco also failed to meet official water pollution standards. All of those resorts are located on the Pacific coast.

PESO SKULL: The pr machine at DVS sent along news that 17 year-old Hawaiian Kekoa Bacalso re-joined DVS surf team. Log on to www.dvsshoes.com/surf to listen to Kekoa chat it up about his future plans.
