EXCITING PRATTE'S REEF UPDATE!!: Uh,...still no waves. But it's really uncrowded. The SD chapter Surfrider Summer Swellabration Party, their next Chapter Meeting, is on Thursday, July 17th and get this, it will be at the beach (La Jolla Shores to be exact). And...the Huntington/Seal Beach Chapter of Surfrider Foundation is still looking for volunteers to work cool events like the Fosters Pro tour, the SIMA Waterman's Ball, and more. Check them out, get involved.

HOW DO YOU KNOW IF IT CAN KILL YOU, UNLESS YOU DIE?: Finally somebody has defined the word extreme, and we here at Surf-A-Palooza kinda like the definition. The "IF IT CAN'T KILL YOU, IT AINT EXTREME" CHALLENGE is the brainchild of Garrett McNamara. "We're putting the money up ourselves to get out there, find the biggest waves we can, and push each other to take the level up a notch," explained McNamara via a press release. I guess this means that rollerblading isn't extreme.

ANDREW LUSTER CAPTURED WITH MEXICAN MOISTIES: This from a Runman films email, "Staging the 1st Annual Puerto Vallarta Runman Film Festival, members of the unit successfully lured the fugitive Luster into the trunk of a rental car, by placing a sign on the bumper that read: 'Amigos, Runman Film Festival, aqui!' Once in the trunk, the unit tossed in a prairie dog roadkill, a copy of MEXICAN MOISTIES magazine, locked the trunk, did many shots of Tequila, and then went off-roading for awhile, before handing him over to local authorities." AMATUER HOUR: This from a Team O'Neill press release, "O'Neill's amateur team turned in a spectacular performance at the 2003 NSSA Nationals, capturing national titles in the Open Men's (Patrick Gudauskas), Open Mini Grom (John John Florence) and Explorer Boys (Tanner Gudauskas) divisions."

A USUALLY DRY STREAMBED THAT IS FILLED SEASONALLY: Billabong sent along news that Royce Cansler, noted industry expert, to director of specialty retailer relations, a newly created position.

IF YOU CAN'T MAKE IT TO J-BAY: Hurley is hosting the final leg of its three state surf series on Monday, July 14th in Huntington Beach. Look for Rob Machado, Asher Nolan, Dan Malloy, Keith Malloy and more to be flying around HB.

GIRLS CAN'T DO ANYTHING: If that's not enough to make you sign up for the OP Girls Learn To Ride clinics, then, well...nothing will. The good folks at OP are sponsoring a surf clinic in Tofino, British Columbia, Canada, on July 19, and also in Oceanside, Calif., on the same day.
