OCEANOGRAPGHY 101, IT'S AN EROSIONAL COASTLINE: The Ventura City Council voted unanimously to certify the EIR and hire a consultant for the final design of the "Surfers Point Managed Shoreline Retreat" project. I'm so confused.

PLEASE USE A SHOVEL DEP'T: Lost Coast Adventures is running surf trips all over the place.

I'M STILL CONFUSED: Globe Shoes will be releasing its first team video, "Somewhere Anywhere Everywhere." The video will feature Damien and CJ Hobgood, Occy, Taj Burrow, Luke Hitchings, Pancho Sullivan, and Nathan Webster. Locations include Hawaii, Indonesia, Australia, Tahiti, Mexico, the US and more. VOLCOM-ONICS...YOU'VE HEARD OF EBONICS, RIGHT?: I'm not sure who writes these press releases, but they are classic. Anywho, Gavin Beschen tied the knot with his long time girlfriend Kendall. The two chose to marry at a tiny park overlooking the ocean in San Clemente. It was walking distance from the houses in which each of them grew up. The incredible reception was held in the Beschen family's backyard. All of Gavin's lifelong friends were there. Derek Ho was his best man; Dino Andino and Gavin's brother Shane were Groomsmen. The crew of groomsmen were decked out in new Volcom gear! Michael Ho was there and Volcom ripper Coco Ho was a flower girl. The Totally Crustaceous Tour began at 9th Street in HB on July 9th. 120 competitors showed. BTW, I recently returned from an Indo trip with Volcom ripper Nate Tyler, and he was doing just that, ripping. Look for the lowdown in the September issue of Surfer. FMI: tpowell@Volcom.com

NICE: A Surf camp for autistic children draws an all-star lineup of professional surfers willing to help. The camp is run by the Surfers Healing Foundation, a non-profit organization that was started in 2000 by Israel and Danielle Paskowitz, owners of Paskowitz Surf Camp. They have an autistic son named Isaiah. Sunny Garcia, Tom Carroll, Makua Rothman, Jenna Grosshans and Mary Osborneand of MTV's "Surf Girls," and the Roxy Surf Team showed up to help out.

SAD: 18 year-old Drean Rucker is presumably the third drowning victim at Huntington Beach in the last month. Lifeguards say that two of the three incidents occurred after sunset when the lifeguards are off duty. Rucker was an all-American high school linebacker. He was set to play football for USC in the fall.

C'MON, THAT'S COLD: Chris Martin, lead singer of the band Coldplay, was charged with malicious damage in an incident where he allegedly smashed the windshield and deflated the tires of a photographer's car. He became enraged when he found out that he had been photographed while surfing Seven Mile Beach in Byron Bay. The employer of the photographer says that he will not press charges if the damage is paid for. The total damage is estimated at less than $1000.
