WELL UNDER WAY: The Aqua East Surf Shop is presenting JAX BEACH PRO right now! The event officially kicks off the 2003 Foster's East Coast Pro Surfing Tour. Surfing powerhouses from Australia, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the US, including: the 2002 Foster's Pro Surfing Tour Overall Champion, Jesse Merle Jones; former WCT heavyweight Rob Machado; Aqua East team rider Jody Davis; and four-time ESA Easterns Champ, EricTaylor. Watch out for him.

Why, you may ask? Because Eric Taylor is the top junior pro surfer in the USA. Last week at his home break, he was victorious victory at the Billabong Junior Pro.

BUT IT'S WALLED IN CHINA: Quiksilver has entered into a joint venture with Glorious Sun Enterprises, Ltd. for the opening of retail stores and wholesale distribution of its products in China all this according to a press release on the Quiksilver website.

This announcement comes on the heels of good news for Quiksilver: Profits for the first quarter doubled company and analyst estimates. Thanks to ISPO news for this info.

I SPY: This news from a Spy Optic press release, "...has announced the appointment of Jessica Trent Nichols as Director of Global Communications.

NOT SO RARE HONOR: This from Bernie Baker: In early March, Randy Rarick, best known for his role as the head honcho of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, was honored with a special presentation by the state of Hawaii. The honor recognized Rarick's role promoting the Triple Crown, professional surfing in Hawaii and the millions of revenue dollars that the sport and the events generate. Then, on March 19, Rarick was presented with a similar proclamation by Honolulu's mayor, Jeremy Harris, for his efforts and support to the state's economy.
