TRAVIS POTTER: 12 Years on the Road, SURFER Finally Found Him

Are there places outside of Indo that you’ve got your eyes on?
I don’t know, I gotta have a boat over here, so I don’t know. I found some land with really good waves and I want to buy it just so nobody can build a camp there. I wouldn’t even build on it. I could buy for cheap and just own it so nobody could set up a camp and ruin it, it’s that kind of a place.
There are still a few places that I want to go that I don’t know if people have ever been. Maybe they have, but I’ve never heard any stories. Or maybe people just aren’t talking. And if there are places that people aren’t talking about then there’s probably something good hiding there. There are a couple spots that I really want to go to based on 16th century accounts I’ve read. Who knows what’s out there…there’s treasure too (laughs).
But a lot of it is the effort that it takes and how much more work I would have to do in the States to get to those places because they cost more. I mean, I’ll go back to California and surf twice a month and it doesn’t bother me because I know that I’m going to come here and surf my brains out for months on end. Then one day I’m on the job pulling my hair out going, “God, I gotta get outta here.” So to go to other places I’d have to work for, say, eight months, which means pretty much not surfing for that long and I don’t know if I can handle it that long.
