VIRS & ROZSA WIN TRIFECTA
California Surf Series Ends with Bang

After quite a series, it's all over, folks.

As the final event of the 2007 Macy’s California Trifecta Surf Series presented by Jeep, the O’Neill Cold Water Classic presented by Jeep and associated Oakley Pro Junior saw a hard-fought battle culminate, with front-runner Adam Virs clinching the title in the World Qualifying Series (WQS) race and Nick Rozsa overtaking Brent Dorrington to claim the Pro Junior title. The three-event series began in Lower Trestles in April with the Jeep Body Glove Surfbout, followed by the Newport Beach Pro presented by Jeep in Newport Beach in September, and the final event, the Cold Water Classic presented by Jeep in Santa Cruz last week.

“I’m super stoked that Macy’s put on the Trifecta for us,” Virs said. “It’s been a long season and to come out on top feels amazing. I think it’s great what they’re doing for professional surfing in California and I’ll be back next year to defend my title.”

As the Macy’s California Trifecta presented by Jeep Champion, Virs (Ventura, CA) received $10,000 bonus cash as well as an all-new Jeep Patriot (valued at $26,000).

Nathan Yeomans (San Clemente, CA), last season’s Macy’s California Trifecta presented by Jeep Champion, and Austin Ware (Solana Beach, CA) finished second and third and received $3,500 and $1,500 respectively.

The ASP Grade-3 Oakley Pro Junior, the first-ever North America Grade-3, was also the third and final event in the Oakley Pro Junior division of the Macy’s California Trifecta Surf Series presented by Jeep. This year was the first year the Macy’s California Trifecta series offered a bonus for the Juniors. After the completion of April’s ASP Grade-2 Oakley Pro Junior at Lowers and September’s ASP Grade-2 Oakley Pro Junior in Newport Beach, competitors at the Santa Cruz event were vying for one of three top ratings positions, which split a bonus $5,000 purse.

Nick Rozsa (Oxnard, CA) walked away with the win following his solid runner-up finish in the Oakley Pro Junior. For the win, Rozsa won a bonus of $3,500 cash and added another accolade to his growing list of accomplishments.

“It’s been a really tough year for me with injuries and illnesses,” Rozsa said. “To finish the year strong is a real boost of confidence for me, and I’m really amped on turning the corner here.”

Adam Wickwire (Satellite Beach, FL) finished in second in the Macy’s California Trifecta race and collected $1,000. Aussie Brent Dorrington (Gold Coast, AUS), who had been in the lead throughout the series after his win at the Oakley Pro Junior at the Jeep Body Glove Surfbout came in third and collected $500.
