GAME ON
Dane, Kelly, Jordy and Mick Swing For The Fence.
by Jake Howard
Top Five Waves of Day 3:
- Kelly wins this one again thanks to a perfect 10. What else can we say other than the dude’s just a freak.
- Once again Dane got loony, and once again the beach lost their noodle. With time winding down and the set of the day coming right to him, he fought off the nerves and put a very complete wave together.
- Mick took a small insider that didn’t look like it was going to be much of a score, but three huge hacks and a reverse garnered him a 7.50, which got helped him cruise past his good friend Taylor Knox.
- After a slow start to his heat against Brett Simpson, when the pressure was on Taj delivered with a combination of whips, gouges and slides.
- At the moment Bobby Martinez is giving all of the goofy footers something to cheer about. In a contest dominated by the regular-footers, Bobby has proved that just because you put your right foot forward doesn’t mean you’re at a disadvantage.
Most Defining Moment:
Once again Kelly’s thrown down the gauntlet. Time and again he claims Dane Reynolds is the best surfer in the world right now, but are those just head games?
Insight That Would Have Helped Your Team If We’d Only Known:
We knew, we just didn’t tell you, but the Surfer Poll last night as historically been trouble for the big dogs. Almost always there’s a victim or two, and this year was no different. Bruce and Parko both finished in the top 10 of the Surfer Poll last night and both bowed out today. Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not.
Talk of the Beach:
Has Kelly clinched his 9th title? With Joel Parkinson’s loss in Round 4, and considering the roll Kelly’s on, by the end of the Boost the champ may just have done it and be able to spend the rest of the year taking a victory lap.
Wildcard Report:
The wild cards have all been cashed out. Brett, Yadin and Sunny all lost today, granted it was against, Taj, Mick and Kelly, respectively, but a loss is a loss. All three are in contention on the WQS, so this may not be the last we see of any of them.
