2003 Boost Mobile Pro at Lowers

Dorian moves onward with sweeping cutties like this.

"It's been a big day and I'm so stoked to be through those two scary rounds," said Burrow. "I was a bit shaky this morning, but am feeling more confident now. The waves were so much fun then... probably the best waves I've had in months, since J-Bay (last WCT in South Africa, where he finished 3rd)."

Chris Davidson (Narrabeen, NSW, Aus) won a great heat against Shane Powell (Avoca, Aus). In what proved a tough battle between the stylish natural footers, Davo let loose on the peeling righthanders with a combination of fin-popping re-entries and forehand snaps.

"I really wanted to progress," said Davidson. "I've had a pretty good run over the last couple of weeks, reaching three semifinals, so I'm hoping to capitalize on what I've been doing and get better results. The waves here suit me, as they're really similar to Narrabeen, so perfect for me really. I'm stoked to beat Powelly."

Californian Pat O'Connell (Laguna) survived a tight battle with Nathan Webster (Narrabeen, NSW, Aus). The lead swung throughout the match, but local knowledge appeared to play a factor as O'Connell wisely selected lefthanders for the bigger scores.

Danny Wills lost out.

"It was real important for me to have a good heat," began O'Connell. "I surf out here all the time, but you really have to be patient and I'm not known for that (laughs). I kept looking for the lefts, as they stand up a little more and allow more turns on your backhand, and progressively my scores were getting better. I heard everyone on the beach screaming, and I had friends in the water screaming... but it's not easy. Every heat on the 'CT is really hard."

A Foster's Expression Session - showcasing many of the world's best, plus wildcard and 2002 Quiksilver Airshow Champion Randy 'Goose' Welch - took place this afternoon and further highlighted the level of progressive surfing.

Hawaiian Kalani Robb scored himself a bonus US$3,000, winning both the best aerial category - which has put him into contention for 'The Snapple Best Damn Airshow' to be contested on Monday the 8th - plus the best overall ride during the Foster's Expression with some more aerial maneuvers.

"I'm stoked," began Robb, after he was showered in beer. "Foster's gave me three grand, so I'm psyched. It's sick."
