It's rare to find a six-and-a-half-foot, 200-plus pound surfer with the coordination and athleticism required to be fast and progressive when the surf dips south of heavy-especially coming out of the Noosa area-but Dean Brady's one of them. In fact, Brady can flow in anything, but he seems most comfortable matching size for size. “I spent some time in West Oz with Dean,” explains SURFER photo ace Scott Aichner. “I was incredibly impressed. He doesn't hold back at all, if there's a ledge to push over, he's going.” With mixed results competitively, Brady's future will likely run counter to that of most of his peers-travel, photos, film, filthy tubes, and heavy-handed hacks will be his bread and butter. Judging by his already exhaustive travel schedule, and the pleasure he takes in hucking himself over the edge, that prospect should suit the big bloke just fine.
