Part of the post-Irons generation, Kyle Ramey has learned from his elders. “I was in Tahiti with him,” tells photographer Patrick Trefz, “and watching him surf Teahupoo, I definitely saw shades of Bruce. The way he would side-slip down the face under the lip, it was impressive.” Be it Tahiti or Pipeline, he’s not afraid to go. And even better, he does it with a style that doesn’t overpower the wave, rather flows with it. Everything appears to be very smooth, as if there’s never a moment of distress. He’s began to make a name for himself as a photo guy, but he also has a good competitive sense. He’s a former Under 18 U.S. Surfing Champion, and most recently finished second place in the Hard Rock Pro Junior at Sunset beach where he finished behind Mason Ho and in front of Clay Marzo.
