THE NEW HOT 100 A Definitive Guide to the Best Young Surfers in the World

38| Chas Chidester
Birthday:
February 24, 1989
Hometown: Sunset Beach, Hawaii

Growing up on the North Shore of Oahu is like growing up under a constant microscope. Every winter young, local surfers are examined and charted. Charters spotted talent in Chidester at a young age, when his parents made the move from Seal Beach to Rocky Point, and Chas immediately fell in love with the power and size of the North Shore. He’d paddle out at Sunset on big days and make lifeguards nervous, but always made it back to shore on his own. Consequently, there aren’t many waves Chas won’t surf. He consistently beats inter-island peers like Tonino Benson, Clay Marzo and Granger Larson. He also made the quarterfinals of the Monster Energy Pro, knocking out Pipe heavy Makua Rothman in the process. Getting out of Hawaii has to be Chas’s next move, but then again, when everybody comes to you winter after winter, why leave?
