Home-schooled and well traveled, Ricky Whitlock is a product of Carlsbad’s State Beach and Ponto hotbeds. Like a lot of Californians, he’s an able-bodied free-surfer, complete with all the tail-sliding, above-the-lip moves required. There is an element of power to his surfing that’s emerging more and more. He’s established himself thus far based primarily on photos, and some great free surfing, it’s likely that will continue as he claws slowly up the WQS ladder.
