Now with the onset of outer island crews from Maui, Kauai and the Big Island, he finds himself stuck awkwardly between generations and islands in a massive pool of talent. While he’s slipped under the radar a bit of late, his big-wave act is in place, and he’s slowly building toward a steady rise up the ranks. A quarterfinal berth at the 2006 Monster Energy Pro was a good place to start.

With an upset win at Governor’s Cup at the 2006 NSSA Nationals last year, over night Kekoa Cazimero, the underdog, became worthy of note. What we found beneath the surface is a kid who lists Rick James and Earth, Wind and Fire as his favorite bands and suggests and exotic dancing career if the surfing thing doesn’t work out. Only 18 years old, he falls in with the Dusty Payne, Clay Marzo, Casey Brown, and Granger Larson crew, which means he’s surrounded by plenty of talent to keep pushing him, but also individuality will be something to work on, after alle’s already demonstrated he has the capacity for big wins.

Growing up on the westside of Oahu, surfing is in Hizon Lin-Kee’s blood. With a stocky, powerful style, Hizon has obviously gained inspiration from Sunny Garcia, and his penchant for solid Hawaiian surf puts him a step above most competitors his age. Focused on achieving in all kinds of surf, Hizon has the luxury of perfect waves in his backyard, and he’s proven himself at home, don’t be surprised to see him do the same on the road in a few years.
