Years ago Andrew Doheny was labeled as California’s answer to John John Florence, which wasn’t exactly fair, considering John John has Pipeline out his backdoor, and Andrew’s has 56th Street. That said, Andrew’s very good at what he does. Fundamentally he’s as sound as they come, equally comfortable on his forehand or backhand. There’s also a very technically progressive dimension to Andrew’s approach. In the water shades of both Archy and Christian Fletcher exist, but he’s grounded emotionally back on land. He’s a good kid that’s won too many contests to count. Thanks to John John a national title has eluded him thus far, and there’s a hungry pack behind him in San Clemente hoping to do the same, but you’ll be hard pressed to keep your eyes off this kid
