With a bright personality, a willingness to pull into the frothiest of beasts, and an loose, effortless looking style to go along with it, “Sea Bass” as he’s known, will undoubtedly grow into great subject matter for the photographers of the world. This kid from Kauai made quite a splash on the North Shore this past winter as he undauntedly maintained a 50/50 make-it to eat-shit ratio at Off The Wall. In the masochistic tradition of the North Shore—a-la Shawn Briley—Zietz happily traded lumps for pits, and in doing so gained much respect. “You just take off thinking you’re not going to make it,” confides Zietz, “so if you come out of one it makes it that much better.” Because of the talent coming out of Hawaii right now, like a lot of his peers, Zietz’s struggle is going to be finding some way to separate himself from the others. A madman’s mentality and two thumbs on one hand is a good start.
