To be expected, North Shore kids are reaping the rewards of John John’s busting-down-the-door performances over the past several years, and Benji Brand is one such surfer. The younger of a talented brother duo, Brand, while still a mini-grom, is showing some serious potential. Less and less daunted by big waves, he has already shown what he’s made of in sizable Haleiwa and Sunset. Held in wild weather and a pumping six-foot swell, Brand won the hyper-competitive 9-10 shortboard division of 30th Annual North Shore Menehune Surfing Championships, and has had good showings at a wide variety of NSSA events as well.
