Pine Trees is almost all that needs to be said about Alana Blanchard’s background. Hailing from Kauai, where family and community are of the utmost importance, Blanchard has benefited from inspiration provided by the Irons brothers, Keala Kennelly, and a local crew that keeps young talents grounded. A 2005 Triple Crown Rookie of the Year award, a horde of solid NSSA results, and a win at Pipe during the T&C Women’s Pipeline Championships a few years back indicate a competitive future. Yet freesurfing is her most notable attribute. Says Andy Irons, “These days she’s a full-blown ripper. She surfs super fast and she’s pretty radical.�
