12| Sage Erickson Birthday:December 28, 1990 Hometown:Ventura, California Sage Erickson, a regularfooter coming out of Ojai, Ventura—the same place that bred the Malloys—has several competitive marks on her belt. At 16, she’s already won a Junior Pro at Sebastian, a Southwest Women’s NSSA title, and pulled a third at Nationals. “That chick rips,” says WCT progressive talent Claire Bevilacqua. “I saw her surf this year and was blown away. She’s got good, powerful turns and is very photogenic.” With an older brother who’s also been blessed with talent and drive pushing her every session, and a renewed focus, Erickson will be working her way up the ladder on the ’QS and Junior tours. 13|Courtney Conlogue Birthday:August 25, 1992 Hometown:Santa Ana, California Conlogue grew up in Santa Ana, which is a solid 30-minute drive from the beach. Yet despite her landlocked location, she’s managed to make the USA surf team, win the Under 18 girls’ division of the Surfing America Championships in Oceanside, and take fifth place in the NSSA Open Women’s division at Nationals. Though her competition is comprised of girls who surf every day, and are focused exclusively on winning, Conlogue’s well-rounded approach, and the same determination that got her to the beach every day, seems to indicate good things ahead. 14|Pauline Ado Birthday:February 21, 1990 Hometown:Biarritz, France Crowned world champion at this year’s ISA World Juniors, Ado, along with Lee Ann Curren, is part of a slowly growing contingent of French groms looking to break onto the competitive scene. As proven by her result, she’s the real deal in global amateur competition, but whether she can parlay that into early successes in the professional realm remains to be seen. |
