A cartoon or comic strip wave is not necessarily supposed to look realistic. The linear flow lines contouring a cartoon wave face do not necessarily exist in nature. They are drawn to create an illusion of roundness. Sort of like the lines on George Washington’s face on a one dollar bill. A cartoon wave is basically a stylized representation of a wave. But at the same time, a cartoon should not be created by merely following a boring formula. (fig.A). It’s easy to fall into the trap of doodling the same boring formula wave from the same boring angle over and over again. |
